Survey Laser Scanning

The benefits of our survey laser scanning services include:
  • Highly detailed 3-D data
  • Safer and less intrusive field operations
  • Enhanced design capabilities
Laser scanning, also known as LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), provides highly concentrated 3-D data points of existing site features. Together, the data points are referred to as "point clouds." By measuring directly to an object with a laser pulse, physical contact with that object is not necessary. LIDAR makes field data collection safer and less intrusive on the daily operations of a site or facility. For example, the need to access busy highways, overhead utilities, or active machinery is eliminated.

Our staff use scanners that collect data at rates of at least 4,000 points per second. This rapidly reduces data collection time while also increasing the level of detail. This higher level of detail also means that if clients request additional data from a site, it has already been collected as part of the overall point cloud, and a return trip to the field is not necessary.

Erdman Anthony's clients and engineers can also migrate laser scan data into 3-D visualization and design tools, giving them greater design power and capabilities.
