Our Projects

The Saltsburg Road bridge project is an early-action bridge replacement for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s milepost 53 – 57 total-reconstruction project. It involves a multiphased bridge replacement over the turnpike in Plum, Pennsylvania, from the existing three-span steel I-beam Saltsburg Road bridge to a two-span prestressed-concrete bulb-tee beam bridge.

The project also includes coal-mine stabilization and roadway and drainage improvements, including stormwater-basin construction, along the PA Turnpike and Saltsburg Road.

The bridge replacement will allow for the future construction of the widened mainline roadway section, which will include three travel lanes and two full shoulders in each direction.

The proposed structure is being reconstructed next to the existing structure, which will remain in service until completion of the new bridge, in lieu of staged construction or an extended detour of Saltsburg Road.

Saltsburg Road’s new alignment will allow for improved sight distance and an increased turning radius at the intersection with Davidson Road, which had been an issue for truck and bus traffic.

This work is on track to be completed by fall 2020. Erdman Anthony is providing construction inspection and management services to the PA Turnpike for the project.

The original contract value is $7.2 million, performed by Mosites Construction.
