Foodlink, the Rochester, NY-based nonprofit that provides an array of services aimed at ending hunger and building healthier communities, has broken ground on a major infrastructure improvement to support expansion plans. The organization is a key provider of food assistance through the safe storage and distribution of emergency food to a network of food banks throughout Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes region.
Since acquiring their 250,000-square-foot headquarters and distribution center in 2022, Foodlink has developed renovation plans to better support their mission. Those plans include 21,000 square feet that will be used to expand Foodlink’s outreach programs, distribution, and kitchen operations. A new energy-efficient cold storage area will more than double the food bank’s capacity for perishables.
Erdman Anthony previously provided survey services and drawings for use in the purchase of their building and is now leading the architectural and engineering design team that is handling the renovation plans. The firm is also providing mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, and fire protection design, along with a comprehensive topographic survey of the site. The project will include exterior improvements for parking, truck/vehicle circulation, and dock access. Foodlink’s Lexington Community Farm Project, for which Erdman Anthony provided survey services and is providing MEP services, will expand from 70 to 120 plots with more raised beds and add an Edible Education Center and greenhouse.
Early phases of the Headquarters projects are expected to be completed in early summer 2025, with the Community Farm anticipated to be completed in Fall of 2025.
