Chambersburg Police Department Renovation and Addition
HVAC, MEP, and Fire Protection Design
Location: Chambersburg, PA
Owner: Borough of Chambersburg
Status: Completed
Construction Cost: $7.7 Million
The Project
Erdman Anthony handled HVAC, MEP, and fire protection design, as well as construction support services, for the renovation of a three-story 8,500-square-foot administrative building and the construction of a two-story 1,500-square-foot addition for the police department in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The police headquarters now has administrative space, meeting rooms, minimum security cells, a sally port, evidence storage space, and training space.
Features/Solutions
The systems our firm designed included a high-efficiency condensing-water boiler plant and primary/variable secondary speed pumping. Two new variable-volume packaged rooftop units now condition the spaces. New electric switchgear and connection to the existing emergency generators were provided for backing up the entire building. A wet-chemical fire protection system has eliminated water contamination of any evidence in the storage area. Working within the existing building’s floor-to-floor heights was a major challenge that our firm overcame.
Impacts
Utilizing the existing administrative building saved considerable money and has provided the police department with an updated and more spacious headquarters.
