Electrical and HVAC design for pop-up tennis stadium at Union Market

Kastles Stadium at Union Market

Electrical, HVAC, and Lighting Design

Location: Washington, DC

Owner: EDENS

Status: Completed

Construction Cost: $7 Million

The Project:

Erdman Anthony provided electrical, HVAC, and lighting design for a pop-up tennis stadium on the roof of Union Market, one of the most popular dining destinations in Washington, DC. The outdoor venue was home to the Washington Kastles professional tennis team for the 2019 season.

Features/Solutions:

The project’s timeline, from design to completion, was just seven months. The scope of work that our firm handled at the 700-seat stadium related to venue and court lighting, VIP dining areas, temperature control, and other electrified features such as a jumbotron. The work was performed in an urban and fully occupied setting.

Impacts:

The Kastles had been playing at an indoor venue at George Washington University, so the pop-up stadium brought the team back outside and drew new visitors to the Union Market area. The stadium featured a combination of premium and more affordable seating options.
