Erie County Water Authority System Improvements

Infrastructure Design and Construction Inspection

Location: Erie County, NY

Owner: Erie County Water Authority

Status: Completed

Construction Cost: $3.5 Million

The Project

Erie County Water Authority selected Erdman Anthony to provide analysis, design, and construction-phase services, including inspection services and engineering, for waterline replacement projects in multiple locations in three municipalities.

Features/Solutions

The project consisted of a single contract for the installation of approximately 9,000 linear feet of 8-inch ductile-iron pipe, approximately 160 linear feet of 10-inch ductile-iron pipe, and appurtenances on 14 streets in the towns of Cheektowaga and West Seneca and the Village of Depew.

Our firm performed topographic survey, hydraulic analyses, subsurface investigations, maintenance jurisdiction analyses, and mainline design. For this project, we coordinated with the municipalities, New York State Department of Transportation, Erie County Highway Department, Erie County Health Department, and numerous fire companies.

Impacts

The COVID-19 pandemic meant that some of the work on this project had to be completed in remote locations, further complicating the design efforts. Moreover, all coordination and permitting with myriad agencies involved had to be completed electronically, which required retaining exact details of all conversations.

Nevertheless, the design was completed on time in order to meet the client’s ambitious letting schedule.
