SR 810/Hillsboro Boulevard Resurfacing

Engineering Design and Post-Design Services

Location: Coconut Creek and Deerfield Beach, FL

Owner: FDOT District 4

Status: Completed

Construction Cost: $7.8 Million

The Project:

Erdman Anthony provided engineering design and post-design services for the resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation of SR 810/Hillsboro Boulevard, from SR 7/US 441 to SR 845/Powerline Road. The six-lane divided urban principal arterial has suburban commercial and suburban residential context classifications.

Features/Solutions:

The project entailed carving out 7-foot-wide buffered bike lanes in both directions by reducing the travel lane widths from 12 feet to 11. Other improvements included:

  • Milling and resurfacing the existing asphalt pavement
  • Reconstructing noncompliant curb ramps
  • Upgrading existing pedestrian curb ramps and installing detectable warning surfaces
  • Repairing sidewalks
  • Resetting guardrails that did not meet current standards
  • Retrofitting lighting at signalized intersections
  • Upgrading pedestrian signalization and push buttons at signalized intersections
  • Making minor drainage modifications resulting from upgraded pedestrian ramps
  • Upgrading existing strain pole signals on Lyons Road with mast arms

Impacts:

The wider buffered bike lanes and restored roadway have boosted the corridor’s multimodal mobility. The roadway pavement’s design life has been extended by 20 years, and the mast-arm upgrades are poised to improve safety and traffic flow at the Lyons Road intersection. The lighting retrofits at the signalized intersections are also slated to improve safety.
