Intersection Improvements in Chemung County

Chemung County, New York, selected Erdman Anthony to provide preliminary and final design services and construction support and inspection services to improve the operation and the safety of seven signalized intersections. This Locally Administered Federal Aid (LAFA) project included developing traffic signal plans and specifications for the installation of new infrastructure that would comply with NYSDOT standards and federal funding requirements.

Preliminary design activities included identifying traffic signal, pedestrian, and intersection geometric deficiencies at the signalized intersections, which are at various locations in the county. Final design activities included developing project plans, which included traffic signal, striping, and signing upgrades, and providing cost estimates and specifications.

Our firm also provided construction support and inspection services to confirm implementation met design specifications.

The traffic signal, striping, and signing upgrades, as well as the ADA-compliant curb ramps, have improved intersection performance and vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian safety. Our firm also recommended design features that will minimize future maintenance costs while maximizing the infrastructure’s longevity.
