Railroad Street Bridge over Mohawk River

Design and Construction Observation

Location: Rome, NY

Owner: City of Rome

Status: Completed

Construction Cost: $2.3 Million

The Project:

Erdman Anthony provided design, construction observation, and grant writing assistance for the replacement of the decking on the Railroad Street Bridge, which was built in 1900 and has a Baltimore truss configuration.

Features/Solutions:

The project presented uncommon challenges because the bridge is the last in the country that has shared use between freight trains and highway traffic, including trucks. The Mohawk, Adirondack and Northern Railroad uses the crossing regularly to serve Oneida County.

Impacts:

Our firm helped restore an important traverse over the Mohawk River while retaining the bridge’s multipurpose function.
