Saratoga Spa State Park Multiuse Trail
Trail and Site Design
Location: Saratoga Springs, NY
Owner: New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation
Status: Completed
Construction Cost: $479,765
The Project
This project involved rerouting and vertically realigning a 300-foot segment of an existing multiuse trail in a state park known for classical architecture and mineral springs.
Erdman Anthony prepared technical specifications, a stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP), and an estimate of probable construction costs for the rerouting and the realignment. Our firm also addressed requests for information throughout the bidding phase.
Features/Solutions
The rerouted and realigned segment of the trail provides a gentler and environmentally sustainable transition to a new 2,300-foot long, 10-foot-wide paved multiuse trail along the western side of North-South Road, between East-West Road and Roosevelt Avenue.
Features that the new trail has ushered in at the park include improved drainage structures, swales, and ditches; new splitter islands and high-visibility pedestrian crossings; greater access to the golf course, pools, and picnic areas; and pleasing views of old-growth trees.
Impacts
Better connections and safer separation between motorists and walkers, joggers, and bicyclists now exist at the park, which is particularly essential when events at its 5,200-seat performing arts center occur.
