The Project

Hendry County was looking for a consultant to provide construction plans to improve CR 832/Sonora Avenue, a one-mile-long stretch of the existing two-lane, undivided rural roadway from W.C. Owen Avenue to Davidson Road. This vital community link serves a high school, recreational area, and important regional commerce, including U.S. Sugar and the South Central Florida Express Railroad.

The project improvements included:

  • Highway-sign replacements and new pavement markings to meet current standards
  • Minor bridge repairs to restore the expansion joints along low-level bridge No. 070054 over the Industrial Canal
  • Guardrail replacement at the bridge approaches
  • Sidewalk repairs and ADA upgrades at the crosswalks
  • Railroad coordination and permitting with the South Central Florida Express Railroad
  • Improved cross slopes

Impacts

The project’s improvements have extended the roadway’s service life and improved safety for motorists and pedestrians.
