The Project
Hendry County was looking for a consultant to provide construction plans to improve CR 832/Sonora Avenue, a one-mile-long stretch of the existing two-lane, undivided rural roadway from W.C. Owen Avenue to Davidson Road. This vital community link serves a high school, recreational area, and important regional commerce, including U.S. Sugar and the South Central Florida Express Railroad.
Erdman Anthony was selected for the roadway design work to provide construction plans for milling and resurfacing with variable milling depths and address sidewalk repairs, pavement cross slope correction, and pavement cracking.
Features/Solutions
The project improvements included:
- Highway-sign replacements and new pavement markings to meet current standards
- Minor bridge repairs to restore the expansion joints along low-level bridge No. 070054 over the Industrial Canal
- Guardrail replacement at the bridge approaches
- Sidewalk repairs and ADA upgrades at the crosswalks
- Railroad coordination and permitting with the South Central Florida Express Railroad
- Improved cross slopes
Impacts
The project’s improvements have extended the roadway’s service life and improved safety for motorists and pedestrians.
