The Project:
Erdman Anthony provided MEP design for a three-story 60,000-square-foot addition to the upper school at Virginia Academy, a private Christian school that serves students from pre-K through 12th grade.
Features/Solutions:
Our firm’s responsibilities included designing energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems for the classrooms, NCAA-sized gym, offices, and common areas. We also designed the water, sanitary sewer, and storm piping systems; bathrooms and shower rooms; area for the coffee bar; plumbing systems, including those for the labs and art classrooms; and systems for 277/480V power distribution and a 130-kW generator for emergency and standby loads.
Impacts:
According to the school’s officials, the addition’s completion was concurrent with enrollment increasing by roughly 300 students.
