West Palm Beach’s Lane-Sharing Concept Featured in FES Journal

Author: Erdman Anthony/Tuesday, April 6, 2021/Categories: Articles, In the Community, Our Industry, Our people

The spring 2021 issue of the Florida Engineering Society’s FES Journal features the story of the City of West Palm Beach, Fla., and its investment in an innovative lane-sharing concept that benefits users of all ages, abilities, and modes of transportation.

The City of West Palm Beach’s road improvement project on Spruce Avenue, a residential roadway located in a historic district, introduces the first Advisory Bike Lanes (ABL) to the city’s bicycle infrastructure. This safer, more equitable model relies on traffic-calming elements to provide motorists with guidance for yielding to bicyclists, and it aims to provide bicyclists with a safer means for traveling along roadways.

Scott Edgar, PE, project manager at Erdman Anthony’s West Palm Beach office, co-authored the article with Lina Camacho, PE, senior project engineer for the City of West Palm Beach. Erdman Anthony provided design-engineering consultation for the project.
