The Netherlands-based Ahold Delhaize, one of the world's largest food retail groups, counts New England’s Stop & Shop brand as part of their U.S. portfolio. The brand’s standalone stores are located on both urban and suburban properties and the projects represent both new builds and renovations of existing stores.
Erdman Anthony designed all-electric heating for selected new stores by eliminating gas-powered heating equipment in support of the company’s pursuit of their net-zero energy goals. For existing stores where a full-electric heating design was not possible, solar panels were added to the building to achieve a smaller carbon footprint.
The owner also sought to address a dim lighting scheme in the stores’ produce departments. We designed upgrades to efficient LED fixtures that net an energy savings while increasing brightness to 70-foot-candles.
In addition, we designed housings for rooftop equipment units to mitigate noise disruption to nearby residential properties.
One notable project, located on an island, required bringing in new electrical service for a renovation that expanded the store. Our electrical designs supported the existing store’s ongoing operations as well as the transfer to the addition once the project was complete. A full store mobile generator was also designed to support operations should weather conditions cause power outages on the island.
Erdman Anthony will provide ongoing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services for Ahold Delhaize as they continue to maintain and grow their Stop & Shop brand.
