Bridge & Roadway Rehabilitation, Fiber-Optic Communication

PennDOT, District 2-0 contracted Erdman Anthony to provide construction observation and documentation services for the Bradford Bypass rehabilitation project in McKean County, PA. This project consisted of two construction sections (C09 and D09) that were constructed between 2006 and 2010. 

Erdman Anthony performed 84 percent of the construction inspection and managed a staff of up to 12 inspectors at peak times during this project. Our firm utilized two Disadvantaged Business Enterprise subconsultants for the remainder of the work.

Section C09 included reconstruction of 3.7 miles and included construction of dual bridges (northbound and southbound) of the following types: a single-span composite steel plate girder bridge 95 feet in length, a dual single-span welded plate girder bridge 105 feet in length, a four-span continuous welded steel plate girder bridge 309 feet in length, a four-span continuous welded steel plate girder bridge 595 feet in length, a dual single-span prestressed continuous concrete I-beam bridge of approximately 120 feet in length, a dual single-span prestressed continuous concrete I-beam bridge 120 feet in length, and a dual single-span composite prestressed concrete spread box-beam bridge 60 feet in length. 

Roadway construction included Superpave asphalt mixture design for the base, binder, and wearing courses. The construction also included drainage, lighting, and steel sign structures. 

Section D09 included the rehabilitation of seven bridges involving hydrodemolition, Type 2 and 3 deck repairs, concrete repairs, structural steel repairs, replacement of expansion dams, repair and replacement of bearings, and cleaning and painting existing structural steel. 

Construction also included the Foster Brook interchange ramps and roadway reconstruction using Superpave asphalt mixture designs for the base, binder and wearing course. The construction also included drainage, guide rails, concrete curbing, lighting, steel sign structures, and fiber-optic communication equipment for 4.1 miles.
