Engineering Project Case Studies | Erdman Anthony

Infrastructure Design and Construction Inspection

Erie County Water Authority (ECWA) retained Erdman Anthony to perform survey, preliminary design, final design, bidding, construction administration, and construction inspection for water-system improvements to infrastructure in four Western New York municipalities.

The project consisted of a single contract for removal of a pressure-reducing valve chamber and installation of associated 24-inch ductile iron pipe (DIP) and fittings in Orchard Park; replacement of 12-inch and 24-inch valves with new 12-inch and 24-inch butterfly valves, along with associated 12-inch and 24-inch DIP and fittings, in the City of Lackawanna; and installation of a 24-inch butterfly valve and associated 24-inch DIP and fittings in West Seneca. The project also involved interconnections, abandonments, various sizes of valves, and various sizes of DIP and fittings at various locations in the City of Tonawanda.

This work significantly increased the efficiency and maintenance capabilities of the subject mains in each location.

The project also required coordination and receipt of permits from the various municipalities, NYSDOT, Erie County Department of Public Works, and the Erie County Health Department.

Erdman Anthony provided the engineer’s estimate for the project, which was within 1.5 percent of the lowest responsible bidder. Our firm also provided construction inspection and administrative services to monitor the construction at the various sites and project as-builts for ECWA records.
